Some things are universal

These two men are part of a group of 19 Buddhist monks who left Fort Worth, Texas, on October 26, 2025, embarking on their “Walk for Peace,” and walked 2,300 miles (3,700 kilometers) to Washington, D.C., where they arrived on Tuesday. As they made their way through the city to their various events, they were warmly greeted by huge crowds of people. They’ll be in the area for three days and will return home by bus on Saturday.

I was pleasantly surprised to see them walking downtown, accompanied by hundreds of people but was unable to get a good shot of them as I was already late for an appointment. However, while waiting for Tim to make his way through the gridlocked streets to pick me up, I saw these two monks on the corner and got this picture.

The Walk for Peace is all over the news, but a good report on it can be found at https://www.npr.org/2026/02/10/g-s1-109416/buddhist-monks-finish-walk-for-peace

Such a great candid Helen…Hope they got their peace message across and didn’t come across any intimidation from some…I look and think…they must be freezing cold as when going out just now I had two layers of clothes on…

This is the kind of spontaneous grab shot that is much easier to capture with a non-intimidating phone than a "real" camera, and that's why I use my phone almost exclusively unless I need a lot of telephoto reach.

I love the contrast of the traditional clothing, running shoes and cellphones. V.

I think they do not communicate with heaven but with other monks demonstrators. Good picture of the special moment in all cases. V.

Om mane padme um ... I don't think it matters much to Trump and his gang but their actions and message is made.

There’s something deeply moving about the contrast between saffron robes against the concrete, and the hum of a busy city.....interesting encounter and capture...V

I like to read DC and peace in the same sentence...

The shoes and the cell phones and plastic water bottle say how times have changed. Nice candid.

Wonderful shot. Yes, phones and water bottles! But what a magnificent march the monks undertook. V

Super candid, well titled Helen. The phones and water bottles fit the bill.
