Pteranodon

This large flying reptile had a toothless beak, similar to today’s birds, and a crest projecting from its head. It had a wingspan of up to 20 feet and lived in present-day Kansas, Wyoming and South Dakota. The model was made with driftwood, palm, monilla fruit, roots, seagrape leaves and horse chestnut bark.

Taken at the US Botanic Garden’s annual holiday display, this year titled ‘Season’s Greenings: Dino-Mite!’. Model trains run on several tracks around the exhibit area.
