Member of the cormorant convention

This cormorant was in a different part of the lake than the ones in the previous picture. It was interesting because a family was walking by, and the parents were discussing what the birds out in the water were doing; the son said, “Drying their wings,” which the parents ignored. So they asked us what kind of birds they were and what they were doing, and we said cormorants drying their wings. The father told his son, “That’s the first time you’ve ever gotten anything right!”

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly unsharp.

A commanding presence. And I feel sorry for that father's son.

A rather ordinary bird becomes extraordinary with its outstretched wings. Ugh to the father's belittling comment.

Very nice pose. Cute story but not a good commentary in the father's attitude. Seems like the son might be the brighter of the two. How old was the son?

Great shot. I hope that father was joking. V

Poor kid. That isn’t very encouraging.
I like how the cormorant’s wing is blocking the seagull…..like on purpose. A cute and well timed capture. V

Excellent photo, nice story, but I don't like how the father rated his son. Poor boy. V.

You got such a great shot here! Love it when they open their wings like this - drying them for sure, that little boy got it right. V
