Union Station, Washington, D.C. (1907)

Thanks to extensive renovations authorized by Congress in 1981, Union Station – located about 10 blocks from our house -- is now not only a major transit hub for Amtrak trains, Metro trains and buses, but is also a tourist destination in its own right.

Building materials include corn husks, ring pods, tulip poplar seeds, Cedrela fruit, sago palm cone scales and palm flowers in the statues and digger pine cone scales, sago palm cone scales and apple pods in the eagles.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

*****

We went to the United States Botanic Garden’s Season’s Greenings exhibit titled “All Aboard,” which showcases historic train stations from around the country made almost entirely from plant materials.
