The National Mall, venue of the Folklife Festival

The National Mall, with the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial to its left in the distance. The weather on Saturday was glorious, with cool (for us, anyway) temperatures and very little humidity, the first break we’ve had in a heat wave that’s extended over a week here.

*****

This year's Folklife Festival on the National Mall, sponsored annually by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., presented Catalonia and Armenia as the guests of honor. Usually a US state is also showcased, but this year, oddly enough, there was none, perhaps due to the tension between “red” and “blue” states dividing the country.

A wonderful day and shot for the event. Sad about the division I hope history doesn't repeat itself... V

Really well composed. The clouds appear to be coming from the monument. V

As Isabel notes, this gorgeous shot really shows the immensity of the site. The festival sounds wonderful too. V

That looks like fun. Great capture. By the way, have you ever climbed up (or down) the inside of the Washington Monument? V

some evidence of real folk life here, despite the political divisions...can only imagine the interstate tensions amid the turmoil of the current administration...perhaps next election an adult will be voted into office..

We had a nice cool day yesterday, as well. What a relief from the extreme heat we've been having. This view really captures the immensity of the mall.

Love image, a heatwave continues in the UK currently also, not complaining though :-)
