I actually didn’t take many flower pictures at Hillwood, and some I did take I just didn’t like. I think I prefer azaleas at places like the National Arboretum, where they grow more or less naturally, rather than in manicured gardens like the ones at this estate. I also felt the arboretum had more “exotic” azaleas, whereas those at Hillwood were beautiful but more conventional looking to me.

Although we've been here several times before, we decided to make a spring visit Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, legendary heiress of General Foods, diplomat, philanthropist and distinguished collector of French and Russian art and jewelry. We were there just slightly past peak for some of its many azaleas and rhododendrons, but still the grounds were lovely at this time of year.
