The controversial cow

In 2003, on our way to another posting in Ankara from one in Okinawa, we stopped in Brussels as Tim had consultations there. I was thinking of redoing my Okinawa gallery when I came across these pictures from Brussels, which I don’t think I ever posted. I had found this exhibit so delightful, I’ve decided to do a small gallery on it, years after the fact.

I don’t really know what to make of this one and was debating whether I should even post it or not as I wouldn’t want to offend anybody, but I have to assume the intention of the artist was good as these cows were ultimately used to raise money for charity. I tried to locate the original name of the artwork as I thought it might clarify the intent behind it, but the exhibit was so long ago, I simply couldn’t find it.

Yes, although its provocative, its a great photo, and a worthwhile subject. Some might say your photos of Saudi are equally provocative, given how women are treated there.

Probably the artist wanted to draw attention to the problem of protheses for war victims.
