I remember years ago when the actual Star-Spangled Banner, first raised at Fort McHenry in 1814, used to be lowered and raised in this same place to the strains of the National Anthem, many times a day. Luckily the National Museum of American History now has a special exhibit featuring the flag, in a darkened room where no photography is allowed. This modern version is what has replaced it.
