I thought we were ready for trick-or-treat, with what I thought was an enormous amount of candy, but we ran out around 8 p.m., when there were still hordes of kids coming through. It’s true there are a lot of children now living on the Hill, but it’s also true that kids from disadvantaged neighborhoods are brought to Capitol Hill so they can have a happy Halloween, too. Next year I’ll be better prepared, meaning have about 1,000 pieces of candy on hand instead of a measly 400 (plus I borrowed some from our neighbor!).
Sahraa thought it was fun to help at first, but after I took a lot of pictures, she hid in the bushes near where our neighbor was giving out candy, and got to see people through the fence and the leaves.
