Dar el-Makhzen (royal palace)

The Dar el-Makhzen, or royal palace, is located in the Fes el-Jedid, meaning New Fes or White Fes, quarter, which was established in 1276. The king of Morocco stays here when he visits the city, and in fact was visiting the day this picture was taken. I didn’t get to see him, unfortunately.

I had discarded this picture as it was just so distorted but decided – at the risk of repetition -- I needed to try to make it work since the gate to the royal palace was just that impressive (and it’s all we got to see of it).

A detail of one of the doors, posted earlier:

Glad you included this - love the extraordinary design - and the outer doors are even more cuddled towards the main door :) interesting effect. The no nonsense guard makes a nice addition too. BV
