Riad Kalaa

Rabat is the capital of Morocco, and although we only spent a night (more accurately, a very early morning since our flight was so late) and a morning here, we felt is was a very pleasant and livable city. I would love to be posted to Morocco, and wouldn’t mind spending two or three years here at all.

This is Riad Kalaa (and the very first picture I took in Morocco), in the Rabat medina (old walled city) where we stayed that first night, after driving to Rabat from the airport in Casablanca.

A riad is a very large, previously private home with an internal garden made into accommodation with relatively few rooms; this is the door to one of the rooms on the ground floor. Riad Kalaa was exquisite, and the staff very kind as they made us a light dinner at 1 in the morning..

Posted earlier today, a portrait of Rostom Badrane, our peerless driver and guide for our two-week tour of Morocco:

This is such a beautiful entryway into what I can only imagine was a fabulous accommodation.
