We visited the enormous Chouara Tanneries in the Fes medina (old city), and these were the dye tanks for the skins, with a cat looking on for scale. Before going in here, the skins have to be soaked in lye (to appear in another picture when I do a complete gallery), the most hazardous part of the process. We also managed to pick up a few souvenirs we didn’t need during our visit.
I truly hate to post and run, but we are leaving in a few minutes for an eight-hour drive to the Sahara Desert, where we’ll spent the night in a tent (via camel) tomorrow night. We’ll be in a small town this evening, but I’m not too hopeful about an Internet connection there and certainly not in the desert. Anyway, the adventure continues, and I’ll catch up when back to civilization in Marrakech!
