Veiled

As you might remember from some of my other shopping images, mannequins here never have heads as the human figure is avoided in art due to a prohibition against idolatry in the Quran (that is my understanding, anyway).

This mannequin does appear to have a head but it’s veiled in the style that many women here cover their faces. The veil and dress would normally be black in public, however.

This was taken at a store that looked fascinating and one that I’d really enjoy, but unfortunately it was closed. Many stores in malls don’t open until 4 p.m. as that’s when the crowds start coming out.

It is quite a beautiful dress in some lovely colours. Interesting that many shops don't open until late afternoon, so different from here. V

The costume is beautiful presented in a strange mix of high fashion and religious practice. V

strange thinking to demand such total coverage, and leave women seeing the world through a cloth screen...as for idolatry, hard to imagine anyone venerating a mannequin..

I remember seeing mannequins with faces in Iran, but I believe this was only in western Iran.
Love the colourful outfit you're showing here, totally my style!

It looks great fashion, but seems strange not to see faces!
