We decided to do the real tourist thing and take a tour of the harbor and canals. It was quite scenic and started out in beautiful weather, although it suddenly clouded up and started to pour. Then it hailed. Then the sun came out as we returned to the dock. Crazy weather in Copenhagen!
This is Det Kongelige Bibliotek, or the Royal Library. We had been to the 19th century Neo-Classical original building and courtyard, and had absolutely no idea that this ultramodern addition was at the back. It’s called the “Black Diamond” because of its angular black granite and glass exterior and is hailed for its merging of two very different architectural forms. I had seen a picture of it in our tour guide, and this was one of the reasons I wanted to go on a tour of the harbor. You can see from part of the boat I left in the frame what the weather was quickly deteriorating into. I did get another picture of the building from a ferry later in the day, and in much better weather.
