The Blue Lagoon is reportedly Iceland’s top tourist attraction. It’s a spa fed by water heated by the Svartsengi geothermal plant which is rich in blue-green algae, mineral salts and silica mud. We didn’t go in to the pool but just walked around to see what all the hype was about. I’m sure it would have been relaxing, but personally I think Iceland’s natural wonders are the main attraction.
There was a huge steam vent dominating the entire pool; I assume it was natural but not responsible for heating the water. Person at center left has their face covered in white silica sand, which gave a pretty ghostly appearance.
