While I have some time I thought I’d start the last part of the Grand Mosque gallery and add to it when I can.

There were arcades lining the two long sides of the mosque complex, with each section containing eight ceramic/mosaic panels depicting a specific era in Islamic art. I tried to photograph a representative of each set; sometimes I seem to have gotten only one, and sometimes as many as five. It’s also difficult now trying to figure out which panels belong to which era, so in some cases I have to guess.

This is the first of what will be at least 12 images.

I still haven’t finished packing for our trip to Iceland (!), but we discovered about midnight last night that we had absolutely no water, so an embassy plumber had to come over and transfer water from a vacant house next door into our roof water tank, which is about enough to last for a day. He didn’t leave until 5 a.m. this morning, so it will really be a miracle if I actually get away on holiday this evening!
