I first saw this exotic building in Al-Namas from quite a distance, not knowing what it was but dying to go there. Turned out, it was our destination – an Islamic museum that is also known as Al-Meqer Palace. I can’t find a single piece of information on it in English, but our tour guide said that a rich Saudi had built it and had amassed a large collection of Islamic works to display there.
Some of the exterior structures seemed delightfully Gaudi-esque to me, and we spent a lot of time (out of our measly 30 minutes at the site) exploring. But the interior was fantastic, with every wall of all three stories we saw beautifully painted. Tim and I had to rush to see all of it and wished we had allowed more time to look around inside.
This building was definitely one of the highlights of our tour, although seems like there were a lot of them ;-).
