This is reportedly a former royal palace that is now used as a royal guesthouse. Our driver said the “King of Tunisia” was staying here, but I don’t believe that could be possible since there isn’t one any more. However, former President of Tunisia Zine El Abidine Ben Ali did flee to Saudi Arabia and is said to be living in Jeddah; perhaps this is where he and his family are staying. In any case, I had seen this complex before and wanted to photograph it, but we came upon it suddenly and were traveling fast, and I obviously wasn’t quite prepared for it. But I decided to post the picture anyway for the magnificence and size of the gate, of which I saw four along the Corniche.
