Yet another view of Kingdom Centre (again shot from a car), which is the second highest building in Saudi Arabia and the third tallest building in the world with a hole in it, hosting a shopping mall, the Four Seasons Hotel and luxury apartments.
Our destination on this visit was the 99th floor sky bridge atop the parabolic arch, after checking out the shopping mall below. It's somewhat difficult to take pictures in shopping malls with the prohibition on having people in the frame, but luckily when we arrived it was prayer time and all stores were closed, meaning there weren't many shoppers around, either. Tim asked at the information desk if photography was allowed. The man asked to see the camera, and as Tim was carrying my D800 for me, he pulled it out. The guy looked a bit frightened by it and said we should speak to the manager. I thought that sounded ridiculous so just used my trusty little Sony RX 100 M2 instead.
Oddly enough, when we got to the viewing platform, we were told that pictures with digital cameras weren't allowed after 4 p.m. (but cell phones were apparently OK). Surely we must have misunderstood because that's why people go up there -- to photograph the view. Luckily we were there earlier than that, but unfortunately it was a very dusty day and so the view wasn't so great, anyway, although it definitely merits another trip in better conditions.
