Decorative painted trencadis columns

The walls and ceilings also were decorated in this trencadis (broken ceramic, used heavily by Gaudí in his architecture) motif.

"Gaudí was inspired by the Patio de los Leones in the Alhambra in Granada, but its [the columns] shape seems to be deteriorating and eroding." (Visual Guide, A building Transformed into a Work of Art, Casa Batlló)
