Ca L'Espinal (5)

Ca L'Espinal was designed by Joan Rubiò i Bellver in 1900 and is said to be one of the most beautiful and highest quality of the Modernista houses in Colònia Güell (and it certainly was my favorite). It takes its name from one Mr. Espinal, the manager of Eusebi Güell's factory in the colony. It combines common brick masonry with material found throughout the area, and two of its most expressive features are the cylindrical corner window box above the front door and the round structure at street level that hides the service entrance (seen in this image). The filigree work on the building makes it one of the most prominent in Colònia Güell.

Another view that I particularly like of this house:

Again the landscaping plays a big part in the attractiveness of the building - I'd love to see from the inside out - all that brick work must make neat designs. V
