The attic

The attic’s structure is totally different to that of the rest of the building, as it is designed as a continuous floor measuring 800 meters square, without columns or walls that interrupt circulation. Gaudí created the attic from 270 arches of different height, width and layout that generate a constant spatial change and which appear to be inspired by the diaphragm of a huge animal or the inside of a cave. (Visual Guide, “The Last Civil Work of Gaudí, La Pedrera, Casa Milŕ”)

Quite a change in style from the ground floor lobby, posted earlier today:

This really messes with my sense of comprehension until I study it for a moment. Great work! ~V~

Interesting the way these arches are able to take the weight and support the ceiling....Gaudi was a master, even if a little unconventional for his time...appreciate the intricate detailing of the shot and background ,Helen...V

nice to see them in focus and subtle colour after my rather wild shots, though can't see how they can describe it as a continuous floor without columns

Love the concentric curves of the brick ceiling. An inspired design and a beautiful capture. V.
