Fundació Antoni Tąpies

Antoni Tąpies, who died in 2012, was one of Barcelona's best known artists and was inspired by Surrealism. The building was designed by Lluķs Domčnech i Montaner in 1879 and was the first domestic building in Barcelona to be constructed with iron. Antoni Tąpies created the sculpture crowning the building titled "Nśvol i cadira" (Cloud and Chair, 1990). This sculpture represents a chair jutting out of a large cloud. The chair, a recurring motif in Tąpies’ work, alludes to a meditative attitude and to aesthetic contemplation.

It's certainly very different and you captured it at a good time of year, before the facade was blocked by the trees.

Thanks for another enjoyable stop on my guided tour of Barcelona. Maybe the overcast sky actually helped you on this one. Will

a fanciful sculpture,, yet the swirls of metal do evoke a cloud, and the chair is clear enough...

The building is beautiful these details and unusual windows and decoration, not so sure about the roof sculpture which could be interesting in thunderstorms. "V"

Barcelona is wonderful for scattering large scale modern sculptures everywhere, but don't find this one terribly convincing; that gap is just yelling to be filled, but perhaps with something more solid?
