Casa Batlló, rear

This was taken from the patio at the rear of the house. Although it might look unremarkable at first glance, Gaudí made extensive use of trencadis, mosaic found in Catalan modernism made from broken tile shards, for decoration as seen on the top and sides of the building.

I couldn't figure out in looking at my pictures why I had taken so few captures of the rooms of this house, and then I saw it in this image: There must be people living in most of the apartments, with only the original Batlló apartment and the attic open to the public. What a marvelous place to live!
