This park was laid out in the mid-19th century on the ruins of a 17th century bastion and is a wonderful place to walk and relax. However, in 1991 there was an incident with Soviet OMON (Black Beret) troops who stormed the Interior Ministry. Six people were killed in this park in the ensuing gunfire. Local still regularly leave flowers at a memorial bearing their names.
