Gdańsk in 1945 (in Main Town Hall)

This photograph was in the Main City Hall's municipal museum. I had read about how the city had been destroyed in the war, but never imagined anything like this. From my calculation, the street on the right of the image is Długi Targ, the main pedestrian mall that is once again full of beautiful houses and which features prominently in this gallery. Across the river is what is now the Maritime Museum, and what's left of the famous crane is also visible. Needless to say, the city did a phenomenal job of reconstruction in the 1950s.

This photo is a very sad one, but I think you did right to include it in your great gallery of a gem yet to be discovered. V
