The painting of the Virgin Mary was brought from Ireland by the Irish bishop of Clonfert in 1649 after he was expelled by Oliver Cromwell. Said to have wept blood some 40 years later, on March 17, 1697, the icon is a major place of pilgrimage in Hungary.
