The cow and coyote were sculpted by Brad Rule in 1995. Beginning in 2011 the two statues began sporting seasonal costumes for holidays. Two Kirkland residents were offended by the coyote's Cupid diaper on Valentine's Day, 2014, and the town vowed to establish costume guidelines.
