Native of Rutland Co. Vermont. At 15 began learning the tanning and currying trade. Elected to the Vermont State Legislature from Sherburne, VT in 1851. In 1852, Moved to what would become the town of Stony Creek, Warren Co, New York where he operated a large Tannery.
