1. A. G. Dana – Brandon – Anderson Green Dana MD, LL. D (1791 – 1861) – One of the founders of the Vermont Medical Society, served as it's president, 1843 – 1844; Permanent member and delegate to the annual meetings of the American Medical Association; A Counselor of Rutland County and delegate to and first President of the Castleton Medical College (The first Medical School in Vermont), Castleton, VT; Received the honorary degree M. D. from Middlebury College, 1830; Performed Vermont's first public dissection in the presence of many physicians in April 1814. Received the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from Middlebury College, 1860; Vermont Senator 1840 and 1841; President of the Rutland & Addison County Insurance Company.

John Howe – Castleton – Judge John Howe (1833 – 1893) – Son of Judge Zimri Howe; Graduated from Middlebury College 1852; Town Clerk of Castleton for a total 26 years; Register of probate for the Fair Haven district, 1861 – 1864; State's attorney, 1879 – 1883; Represented Castleton in the state Legislator, 1867 and 1878; Assistant Rutland County Judge, 1888 and 1890 – 1891; Rutland County Clerk, 1891 until his death in 1893.
In 1868, went to Florida where he served as Superintendent of Schools, assessor of internal revenue, assistant county Clerk, and in 1874 and 1875, mayor of Apalachicola, FL where he lived.
Enlisted in the 2nd Vermont Regiment at the outbreak of the civil war. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. An injured foot forced him to resign his commission and return home. Developed a rheumatic condition in the foot and leg that caused him to walk with a cane the rest of his life.
