Racing Toward The Light

Racetrack Playa, Death Valley National Park

It is hypothesized that in winter, on the rare occasions when this aincient lake bed freezes over, high winds push these rocks, which have fallen off of the surrounding cliffs, across the surface of the "Racetrack Playa." The rocks, some of which weigh on the order of 100 pounds, leave tracks behind them.

I heard otherwise.
I thought it was during heavy storms that those rocks are pushed along with the flow of the flood.
