Ahhhh, Mali. Dogon country, Tuareg, The Djenne Monday Market, Sitting on top of a sand dune
enjoying endless views over the Sahara at sunset,
watching cute hippos wallowing in the Niger, Timbuktu, Music, Culture...Ahhh.

Reality: Hotter than shit. Poorer than, well, friggin poor. Being served tea by Bella slaves (no, slavery was not entirely abolished,
contrary to what anyone tells you). Staring down river pirates on the Niger.
Being in the water WITH the Hippos (nice Hippos, please don't eat me). Black Magic, Animism,
Bamako. ...the smelliest capital I have ever been too, not to mention home of the craziest and
most pain in the ass moped and motorcycle drivers ever seen...anywhere...at any time...ever.

Honestly, we should have all died here (everyone on the trip with me that is), but, we didn't, so it's definitely in my most
favorite country category and would recommend to anyone who wants a bit of adventure.
Just don't listen to all the hype. It's Africa, and its in a very, very poor part of Africa.
The people are absolutely amazing though, and the food, well, its Africa.

After finding out that I will be living in Bamako for 3 year, I went online looking for information and pictures of this place. Your gallery contain amazing images. Your exposure, composition and angles are absolutely flawless. Surprisingly, you have shown that it is the man behind the hardware that matters and not the array of optical glasses, D-SLR bodies. Great work!

An incredible journey! Thanks so much for posting...I enjoyed your writings to explain everything. I'm most amazed at the fact that you manage to capture all this with just a basic rig...Proves to me once again, it's not the equipment(although great equipment is nice), it's the photographer and his or her knowledge that makes that baby sing.
