Mississippi Lake/River, Ontario
The Series "ONE HOUR IN THE LIFE OF A ONE-DAY OLD COMMON LOON CHICK" continued from yesterday. (See previous three postings for description, notes and the initial images, 1a, 1b, 1 & 2....12).
Image 13 (above): Mom/Dad thinks it’s time for some more swimming practice and lessons, but junior doesn’t agree.
Image 14: So Mom/Dad raises its wings and dumps junior into the water. (this must be Dad as Moms wouldn’t do this, would they??)
(Actually, the adult may have temporarily forgotten that junior was on its back, as raising and flapping its wings can be a sign of aggression or defense of its territory.)
Image 15: Junior doesn’t like being dumped and voices its objections.
Image 16: Junior further shows its displeasure by biting Mom/Dad’s beak
Image 17: Mom/Dad prevails and tells junior to go catch his/her own dinner.
