20100903 319 Peregrine Falcon NX2.jpg

Ottawa West

I am presently still not able to take pictures, but my splint was removed yesterday, so I hope to be back in the saddle next week. In the interim, for image quality comparisons, I am continuing with postings of images taken with the various cameras that I've owned over the past 20 +/- years.

The above image was taken in 2010 with my fourth DSLR, the 12.3 Mpx Nikon D300S. I was using my 500 mm F4 lens + 1.7 TC, tripod-mounted for distant shots when all of a sudden this Falcon landed too close for me to get it all in the frame. LOOK AT THOSE TALONS!

1/400s f/8.0 at 850.0mm iso400 + 1.7 TC full exif

What a thrill it must have been to have one land so close and you got such a great photo.

Hope you get back birding soonest - Fall migration seems to have started already. I'd still be using my D800 if my birding 70-200 lens hadn't bit-the-dust!

Sharp shot of this falcon, and you're right about those talons! Amazing.
