Six images of a GBH with a BIG catch. This is the third posting of a three part SERIES - Will it, or will it not be able to swallow this fish in one piece as Herons are prone to do with their catches. For parts one and two, click "PREVIOUS" "PREVIOUS"
Top Image: After several successive batterings and dunkings, the BIG fish finally floats on its side and is deemed to be dead.

The Heron then starts it on its final journey.

At this point I am still not sure if the Heron can swallow it whole. I've seen GBHs down pretty big fish, big Bullfrogs and one time a young Muskrat, but never a fish this big.

But, if it wants the meal, it will have to swallow it whole as it does not have the tools to rip it to pieces like Birds of Prey.

Yep, folks, its almost down. Note the big lump on the back of the Herons head.

Mission accomplished. Now for a good long sleep!
.
Note, from start to finish it took about five minutes for the Heron to toss, spear, dunk, kill and swallow the large fish. It seemed more like 15-20 minutes to me but the camera doesn't lie, so five minutes it is.
