LUNCH -TIME

Yes folks, Owls too have to eat. Owls often store their excess prey in caches spread around their claimed territory, to be retrieved later.

A few of us watched this Owl for a while as it flew from perch to perch. It did not seem to be too bothered by our presence and often took more interest in the crows above than us mortals below. Whilst we were watching, the Owl suddenly flew to the location shown in image # 1 above and retrieved a mouse from a cavity in the tree. It then flew off and ate the mouse. The Owl then flew to an other cache and retrieved a vole. It watched us for a while with the vole in its beak, putting it back into the cache a few times and then picking it up again. Finally, it flew to the perch shown in image # 2 below and proceeded to devour the vole whilst we watched.

Nice to have the opportunity to watch!
However; it appears that these are two different prey...The tail in the first image is much longer; probably a mouse..the second, with the shorter tail does in fact look to be a Vole.
