my first book

I have wanted to learn to make books for quite a long time. I want to be able to create my own handmade photographic books. I went to a workshop yesterday at the Bernheim Forest near Bardstown, KY. What you see here is my VERY first book and some of the resources I have been gathering (books on bookmaking, tags, ribbons, etc.). We go back next week to embellish our books and finish them up. Our class was in a gallery and I took a picture of a metal sculpture to use as an overlay or background. I used it with image to give it a slightly more artsy twist. Bernheim Forest sponsors 3 month artist in residencies for visual artists and writers. You stay on the grounds for 3 months and get inspired by the beauty of the forest. If anyone is interested you can google to find their web site and more information.--Rene

Looks like a fascinating thing to do ... how cool to take your photos and put them in a book you have created! :)

Wow! Great picture and intriguing story.

I remember getting my thesis bound and collecting it from a strange little backstreet workshop in Oxford. They had no computers, or phone - barely a pen in fact, but the work they had in progress and finished in their workshop was exquisite. How wonderful that you are taking up such a skill - best of luck!
