In the orientation shown (with Patriarchal cross inverted), reading the letters at the extremities of each arm of the cross leads the observer to make the sign of the cross with their eyes, spelling out CNUT.
The inverted patriarchal cross, also known as the Petrine Cross, symbolizes humility and martyrdom, particularly associated with Saint Peter, who, according to tradition, was crucified upside down.
