Caldbeck Fells Minerals

A famous area for colourful minerals - greens, blues, oranges and yellows. "The mynes" are shown on a 1576 map, but the locality is spelled "Cladbek", as it is on subsequent maps dated 1612 and 1646. The Caldbeck spelling appears from Otley's 1818 map onwards.

On a trip brilliantly led by David Clayton for the Mineralogy Society of Hong Kong in July 2025, I had the pleasure of revisiting this area for the first time in decades. There were some pyromorphite habits I'd not seen before in the Driggith spoil.
