Blue Whales and More

August is a very good month to go looking for blue whales offshore San Diego. On the way out we saw a solitary Pacific white-sided dolphin, a huge pod of common dolphins and a shy humpback. About 15 km offshore there was a distant blow followed by a dive, then another blow much closer, then on the third time of surfacing the big blue whale remained in view for a while.
