The early morning sun gives the brown palace a very warm glow. Although it is still the official residence of the royal family, most of the palace has been converted to an hotel. While we were there, the maharajah's son was gravely injured in a polo match in Mumbai. The widely followed Hindu holy man, Sri, Sri, Sri Ravi Shankar, (not the sitar vrtuoso of the same name) came to the palace to comfort the maharajah's mother, who was unable to travel. A large crowd gathered in the palace to participate in the vigil. Photos were not allowed.
