The desert sands around the underground water tank are graded to collect as much of the meager rainfall as possible. This region has experienced an annual rainfall of only one inch per year for the past 4 or 5 years, well below the long term average of 4 - 5 inches per year. Camel-drawn tank carts periodically replenish the homestead's water supply.
