The Thadingyut' (October) Festival of Lights is held for three days, one day before and after the first full moon, at the end of the Buddhist Lent. Throngs of devoted Burmese came to the Shwedegon Pagoda complex in the rain to express their devotion and witness te lighting of the pagoda.
