Compared to the ones we saw last year, these are midgets.
And soooo delicate.

Botanical name is "anemone patens" - not a "real" crocus at all.
Adopted in 1906 as Manitoba's official provincial flower.
And to clarify a question - these are 'wild' crocuses
that grow in the prairies. Fast becoming rare, they are
actually protected - you CANNOT PICK them, like we did
for our moms when we were kiddies. I remember them growing
prolifically in the school yard every spring, and would
bring a bunch home for mom - those were the days.
