Summer Tanager, Mendocino Co., September 2009

This male Summer Tanager, first found by Richard Hubacek, has been frequenting the Lake Cleone area of MacKerricher State Park, Mendocino County. It appears to be the eastern subspecies (Piranga rubra rubra), rather than the western form (P. r. cooperi) that breeds in southern California.
