Common Moorhen is a rare and declining breeder in Massachusetts due to destruction of freshwater marshes, and is listed as a Species of Special Concern by the state Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program. This bird was at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, one of the only places in the state where these birds are regularly seen.
