I work with Mike Roberts who is a cousin of Dennis Poolheco. Mike forwarded these photos to me. You asked for tips in shooting action shots. I studied several of the pictures and looked at the camera settings on several of the ones that displayed them. I see two problems. Focus and movement. All the following is relevant no matter what brand of camera you are using or whether it's film or digital. In action shots, especially when the movement is toward you, pre-focusing is of prime importance. As the distance between the camera and the subject is changing it becomes almost impossible to keep the subject in focus and compose your shot and take the picture at the same time. The best way I've found is to pick a fixed object that is at the same distance away that you want to snap your picture and focus on it. Wait until your subject reaches that point and snap your picture. With a camera that has a manual option for focusing you won't have to re-focus for each subject. Just wait until they reach that point. If you prefer to use auto-focusing, or you don't have the manual option, you will have to pre-focus each shot. This is not bad on slow moving targets, like running people if there is enough distance between each person, but it can become very difficult with fast moving objects like race cars that are spaced close together. Pre-focusing using auto-focus usually requires engaging the shutter release button part way, waiting for the camera to focus, and then pushing the button all the way down. This can take a second or two for each shot. The next problem is movement. It may be camera movment or subject movement. Camera movement can be reduced almost to nothing with the use of a tri-pod. This method is a little difficult to use if you are moving around a lot or if the added weight of a tri-pod drags you down. A good substitute is to use any object nearby to steady yourself against, like a car, fence post, tree, etc. If nothing is available make sure you have a good solid stance with you feet placed a comfortable distance apart, best on flat ground. Kneeling will help in some situations. Use the viewfinder if available so the camera can be steadied by your head. Holding the camera at arms length using the LCD on a digital camera should never be used. Hold your breath just before snapping the picture. If the blurry shot is caused by your subject moving then about the only thing you can do is to increase your shutter speed. I observed that several of your pictures had the shutter speed and F-stop displayed. Eveyone I looked at had a shutter speed of 1/60th of a second or less. This is not fast enough to stop the action on someone running and may even produce blurring on someone walking. The F-stop on the same pictures was very large. The slow shutter speed and a large F-stop tells me that there wasn't very much light on that day. Also in some of the pictures where I could see sky showing it looked grey. The only way to increase the shutter speed is to have plenty of light or a much faster iso rating for your film or digital camera. An iso rating of 400 or more would have helped. My digital camera has an adjustable iso of 100 to 800. For film camera's, film can be bought over the counter up to iso 1600 or more. If your camera is a fixed iso, there is not much you can do under low light conditions other than using a flash. Most camera's that have a built in flash have a flash range out to 10 to 12 feet. This will not be sufficient for distances greater than that. If the flash is used on a cloudy day as in most of your pictures, it still may not be enough to stop the action. Most camera's synchronize the flash at 1/60th of a second. Some will synchronize up to 1/120th of a second. You will have to check your camera manual for this information. If it uses the faster speed of 1/120th of a second and it is an option you can sellect, use it. Even then you may have to wait until your subject gets closer before taking the picture. As you can see there are many variables that affect taking pictures of moving objects. If there are any terms I used that you don't understand I would suggest looking on the web for any tutorials on photography. I know this has been very long and painful but I hope it helps.
