Medano Creek

This picture shows the wave action in the creek that one has to cross to get to the dunes. The creekbed is loose sand. That sand intermittently builds up to form dams in the creek, and then those temporary dams fail. This repeated action results in small waves of water surging down the creek. It is rather fascinating to stand at the edge of the creek and watch these surges ebb and flow.
