(Pedicularis kanei)
these are some of the earlier flowers of the summer here, i have always loved them... They bloom from the bottom to the top when complete they turn brown and die. i did some macro photos last year and it occurred to me that the little flowers look kind of like the heads of Ptarmigan, a grouse like birds that we have in abundance here...
