Dedham
Dedham, right on the border with Suffolk, yet part of "Constable Country". Separated from Suffolk by a river, Constable was born in East Bergholt on the Suffolk side, but attended the grammar school here in Dedham.
The village has the 16th century church of St Mary, which appears in his paintings, with its 131 feet high tower.
Once prosperous in the 16th century, by the early 20th century, with no railway link, the town stagnated.
Now visitors from all over the world visit, so the area is very busy in the summer.
Some timber framed buildings remain, and there are some early-Georgian buildings, including the Grammar School.
